Psychological and Psychiatric Pitfalls After Bariatric Surgery - Matthew M. Clark, PhD

Dr. Clark is a board certified clinical health psychologist, and a consultant in both the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology, and the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism, and Nutrition, Department of Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic. He is a Professor of Psychology, Chair for Research for our Department, his research is funded by NIH on several clinical trials, and he has over 170 scientific publications. Due to his clinical expertise and research accomplishments he is a fellow of the Society of Behavioral Medicine and the Obesity Society.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Describe the prevalence of addictive behaviors in patients who have had bariatric surgery.
• Recognize the importance of monitoring for problematic eating behaviors and mood following bariatric surgery
• Describe the features of an effective post-bariatric surgery mental health plan
