The purpose of this course is to provide the physician assistant, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, and other advanced practice providers with a diverse learning approach to the neurosciences.  It covers a wide variety of neurosurgical topics and also includes pain management and stress management.  The course features an exciting lineup of passionate and engaging speakers to give attendees a rewarding, learning experience.

Hands-on Bypass Workshop  (Separate Registration Required)

Session I: 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Session II: 3:30 - 5:30 pm

2.0 CME credit hours
Bypass - Microvascular anastomosis is one of the most complex and technically challenging surgical procedures. It demands high levels of manual dexterity, fine motor skill, hand-eye coordination, as well as respect and safe manipulation of the tissue to avoid damage to the fragile endothelium and the entire vessel wall. In addition, improved proficiency in microanastomosis has been shown to translate to other microsurgical skills. With the decrease and dilution of the surgical volumes amongst increasing numbers of tertiary medical centers, as well as work hour limitations there is concern for a loss of proficiency among graduating neurosurgical trainees and practicing neurosurgeons alike. In this unique hands-on course, you will have the opportunity to complete an end-to-end anastomosis under the microscope using the same tools available in the operating room. You will also be graded on a validated scale (NOMAT) and given direct feedback on your skill and the areas of deficiency in your technique.

Embolectomy and Intracranial Stenting Workshop  (Separate Registration Required)
Thursday, February 27, 2020 - 12:45 pm - 4:00 pm
3.0 CME credit hours
Embolectomy - Ever since the publication of the 3 positive trials (MR-CLEAN, ESCAPE, EXTEND-IA, REVASCAT and SWIFT-PRIME) in 2015, mechanical thrombectomy has become a gold standard in stroke care. This has led to the development of multiple clot retrieval devices. In this course, you will have the opportunity to learn about these devices, their design, their limitations, and their specific characteristics. You will also get to test your skills in deploying them and attempt to retrieve a clot in a hands-on model. This will allow you to understand the different available tools, the pros and cons of each, and compare them side by side. You will also be graded on a Likert-scale and given direct feedback in order to determine your proficiency and improve your deficiency in these procedures.
Intracranial Stenting - Endovascular aneurysm treatment has witnessed a large expansion in the last decade. Multiple new devices have become available in the last few years making it difficult for trainees and neurointerventionalists alike to maintain a level of proficiency in all devices. In this course, you will learn about all intracranial stents for aneurysm treatment, including flow diverters. During the hands-on session you will be able to deploy all stents and understand their mechanics, their design, their specific characteristics, their differences and their specific indications. You will also be graded on a Likert-scale in order to determine and improve your proficiency.

Image Guided Surgery Workshop:    (Separate Registration Required)
Friday, February 28, 2020 - 1:15 pm - 4:15 pm
No CME credit hours

• Fluorescence
• Virtual and Augmented Reality
• Robotics and Spinal Surgery
