The 31st Mayo Clinic Audiology Conference will focus on navigating enhanced care pathways where multidisciplinary teamwork and practice innovation intersect to meet the needs of the patient. This interactive CME course focuses on hearing health, multidisciplinary approaches to hearing loss, and factors that may cause or be associated with hearing loss and influence quality of life.
Target Audience
This course is designed for audiologists, audiology students, otorhinolaryngologists, and others involved in hearing healthcare, dizziness, and balance.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe examples of clinical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in auditory and vestibular care pathways.
- List two examples of leveraging emerging clinical technology for team-based auditory and vestibular patient care.
- Describe two trends in hearables and hearing aid technology to support the rehabilitation needs of the patient with hearing loss.

Completion Requirements
Learners must complete both the course and faculty evaluations at the end of the course in order to receive a certificate of completion.
Note: Learners who are requesting ASHA CEUs will receive a copy of the ASHA CE Participant form at check-in for the course. The form must be fully completed and handed in to CPD Staff in order to be reported for ASHA CEUs

Rachel Bouserhal, Ph.D. | Rachel Bouserhal, PhD, is an associate professor in the department of electrical engineering of the École de technologie supérieure, Montréal, Canada. She is the head of the Research chair in Hearing, Health, and Assistive Devices (RHAD). |
Meredith Chapman, Au.D. | Meredith Chapman Au.D. is an audiologist at Mayo Clinic Health System who provides diagnostic and rehabilitative services to patients of all ages. In addition to general diagnostics and hearing aid care she also provides more specialized care including, ABR, VNG, and cochlear implants. |
Heather M. Clark, Ph.D. | Dr. Clark is the Chair of Speech Pathology in the Department of Neurology and Associate Professor in the College of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She is board-certified by the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences and is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Her clinical responsibilities include differential diagnosis of communication and swallowing disorders in adults and children. She serves as co-investigator in several projects examining the nature of speech, language, and swallowing impairment in degenerative neurologic disease. Dr. Clark has served as a topic chair for the ASHA convention, program chair of the Conference on Motor Speech, and chair of the fall conference of the North Carolina Speech Language Hearing Association. |

Melissa D. DeJong, Au.D. | Melissa DeJong has been an Audiologist at Mayo Clinic since 1997. She received her Master’s degree from the University of Memphis and her Au.D. from the University of Florida. Dr. DeJong is the lead audiologist on the cochlear implant team working with both pediatric and adult recipients. She has extensive experience working with children of all ages with hearing loss and enjoys partnering with families on their hearing loss journeys. Dr. DeJong’s areas of interest include optimizing cochlear implants in the pediatric population with a focus on very early implantation and family centered care. In addition, she works with pediatric patients in the diagnostic clinic with a focus on multi-disciplinary complex care. |
Adam M. Goulson, Au.D. | Adam Goulson, Au.D. is a clinical audiologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He received his Au.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is currenlty the lead of the vestibular program within the Division of Audiology. His interest is in the evaluation and management of patients with dizziness. |
Linda Hasadsri, M.D., Ph.D. | Linda Hasadsri is the Director of the Molecular Technologies Laboratory and is also the Chair of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (EID) for the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic. She completed her MS in Genetic Counseling at California State University Northridge and, after working as a genetic counselor in both prenatal and pediatric care, pursued dual MD & PhD degrees at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, followed by two fellowships in Clinical Biochemical and Clinical Molecular Genetics at Mayo Clinic Rochester. She has since worked at Mayo as a board-certified clinical laboratory director for 8 years. Two of her areas of expertise are the genetics of hearing loss and newborn screening. She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and has helped develop and launch over 20 different molecular genetic tests now available to healthcare providers worldwide through Mayo Clinic Laboratories.” |
Joscelyn R. Martin, Au.D. | Joscelyn Martin is a pediatric audiologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota She received her Master’s degree from Northwestern University and her Doctor of Audiology degree from Central Michigan University. Dr. Martin holds Pediatric Audiology Specialty Certification (PASC) from the American Board of Audiology and has been coordinator of the Mayo Clinic Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program since its inception. |
Melanie Meldrum, Au.D. | Melanie Meldrum, AuD, CCC-A, accepted a clinical audiologist position at Mayo Clinic in 2005 after graduating from the residential AuD program at the University of Florida. She currently divides her time between adult diagnostic testing, hearing aids, and bone conduction devices. |
Gayla L. Poling, Ph.D. | Gayla L. Poling, Ph.D., is an audiology researcher at Mayo Clinic who studies and develops diagnostic approaches for the early detection and prevention of ototoxicity-related hearing loss — hearing loss caused by ototoxicity, aging, and other environmental factors. Dr. Poling is also interested in improving accessibility to timely and individualized hearing health care leveraging innovation and data science. |
Santiago Romero Brufau, M.D., Ph.D. | Santiago Romero-Brufau, MD, PhD, leads the AI Program for the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at Mayo Clinic. His work focuses on the development and implementation of machine-learning and AI solutions into ENT clinical practice. He also teaches two of the core courses for the Health Data Science Program at the Harvard School of Public Health. |
Andrew Sabin, Ph.D. | Andrew Sabin Ph.D. currently leads the hearing research franchise at Bose Corporation. Prior to that he founded Ear Machine, a startup that ultimately led to the first FDA-approved self-fitting hearing aid. He is also scientific advisor to HearAdvisor - a company that evaluates hearing aid performance to better inform consumers and clinicians. |
Aniket A. Saoji, Ph.D. | Aniket Saoji, PhD, CCC-A is the director of the cochlear implant program at Mayo Clinic, Rochester and an associate professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He is a clinical audiologist with a Ph.D. in Psychophysics from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Prior to his position at Mayo Clinic Dr. Saoji was a principal research scientists at Advanced Bionics where he was involved in the development of new signal processing and speech coding strategies such as Fidelity 120, Optima, ClearVoice, Span, etc. He has co-authored several patents and publications on the technologies developed at Advanced Bionics that has led to significant improvement for cochlear implant patients. |
