PRESENTER BIO
Since 1998 Dr. Slotman has served as Professor and Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Vrije Universiteit medical center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His expertise lies mainly in the field of stereotactic irradiation, the treatment of small cell lung cancer and the early clinical implementation of new technologies.
Professor Slotman is the (co)-author of more than 400 peer-reviewed publications (H-index 82). He has (co-)organized various conferences and has coordinated a number of trials, including RCTs on prophylactic cranial irradiation and thoracic radiotherapy in extensive stage small cell lung cancer. His research activities are further concentrated on intra- and extracranial stereotactic radiotherapy and the introduction of various new technologies in radiotherapy. The latest being MR guided and adaptive radiotherapy. He serves on the editorial board of several journals.
Dr. Slotman received his MD and PhD both cum laude at the VU University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 1985 and 1990, respectively. After training in radiotherapy at the same institute, he was registered as radiation oncologist in 1994. In 1998 he was appointed full professor of Radiation Oncology and Chair of the Department at VU University.
From 2007-2016, Dr Slotman served as chairman of one of the six divisions of VUmc. This division included most laboratories, pharmacy, medical physics, radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation oncology.
Since 2019, he is also chairman of the department of Radiation Oncology of the second academic hospital in Amsterdam (AMC). He is now integrating the two academic departments, which will become (one of) the largest academic centers in Europe. In addition, he is vice-chair of one of the 10 divisions of Amsterdam UMC, that includes the departments of Radiology & Nuclear medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacy and Radiation Oncology.
He is or has functioned as member or chairman of various national and international committees and organizations. He is past-president of the American Radium Society, served as member of the Board of the International Society for Radiosurgery, and serves as on the Board of the Radiosurgery Society RSS. He was elected as President of the European Society of Radiotherapy and Oncology and after serving 2 years as president-elect, started his 2 year-term as president in 2020. He was awarded honorary fellow of American College of Radiology in 2017 and received the ISRS Jacob Fabrikant award for pioneering work in SRS/SBRT in the same year. He was awarded fellow of ASTRO and received the KA Dinshaw Oration of AROI both in 2018.
