PRESENTER BIO

Bradford Hoppe, M.D., MPH, is a Professor of Radiation Oncology and the Medical Director of Particle Therapy. He specializes in the management of patients with lymphoma, lung cancer, thymic cancer, prostate cancer, and GI malignancies. His interest is to provide outstanding patient care, conduct research to improve patient outcomes, and help train the next generation of radiation oncologists.

Dr. Hoppe participates in the multi-disciplinary approach to the management of patients with cancer, which includes weekly tumor conferences, where new patient cases are presented and discussed amongst specialty providers including oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, radiologists.

His research activities have focused on investigating the role of particle therapy in improving outcomes in cancer patients. Specifically, his work has been patient focused on improvements in quality of life and reducing the risk of side effects from radiation.

Dr. Hoppe is an international expert in particle therapy and helps educates physicians worldwide via lectures and published review articles and chapters. He is also an American Board of Radiology examiner for specialty credentialing of graduating residents in Radiation Oncology.

Sameer Keole, M.D. is Medical Director of the proton beam therapy program at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona where he also serves as consultant. He is an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. Keole has worked with proton beam therapy throughout his career and in the treatment of more than 900 patients. In addition, he was Medical Director of the ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma City and an adjunct Assistant Professor at Oklahoma University Health Science Center. He also has been an Assistant Professor in the Florida Proton Therapy Institute, Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Florida in Jacksonville, and an Assistant Professor at the Shands Cancer Center, Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

Dr. Keole’s research interests include image guidance and motion management. His disease site interests are in pediatric, central nervous system, genitourinary and breast malignancies. Dr. Keole is board certified in radiation oncology. He serves as the Government Relations Council Chair of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology. He is cofounder of the Proton Collaborative Group (PCG), which was the Multi-Institutional group to launch proton-specific clinical trials and a prospective patient registry. Dr. Keole has published peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts on radiation oncology topics, including proton beam therapy.

Dr. Anita Mahajan is a Radiation Oncologist and is currently the Medical Director of the Proton Therapy Center at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. The Proton Beam Therapy Program is directed by the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the country with a multisite presence, with locations in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota.

Dr. Mahajan was born in England and since then has lived in Toronto, Montreal, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. She holds an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto and a medical degree from McGill University. She then completed a fellowship in proton radiotherapy in Boston at the Massachusetts General Hospital and was on staff at the New England Medical Center of Tufts University and MD Anderson before joining Mayo Clinic.

Throughout her career, Dr. Mahajan has continued to have a passion for treating patients successfully with minimal side effects. In her field, she can work with other professionals including surgeons and medical oncologists to make sure each patient receives the best possible care. In her current role, Dr. Mahajan has had the opportunity to ensure patients will be cared for by a team of specialists from different fields who work together to determine a patient’s best treatment options. This is especially beneficial when it comes to coordinating complex treatment protocols involving multiple therapies.
