PRESENTER BIO
Dr. Christine O. Menias is a Professor of Radiology in the Abdominal Radiology section at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Arizona, USA. She joined Mayo Clinic in 2013, is a Consultant in the Department of Radiology, and is the former Chair of the Division of Abdominal Imagining, Mayo Clinic-Arizona. Prior to this she was Professor of Radiology at Washington University, and director of Body CT and Emergency Radiology, in addition to being the assistant program director of the radiology residency at Washington University.
Born in Cairo, Egypt, she received her M.D. degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She completed her Residency and Abdominal Imaging Fellowship at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
“Cooky”, who was on the Washington University faculty for 15 years before coming to Mayo Clinic, is a recognized leader in the field of Abdominal Imaging, with special interests in oncologic, transplant, gynecologic and emergency radiology.
Cooky is nationally recognized for her service and contributions to the field of abdominal radiology and oncologic imaging, and is an active member in many prestigious radiology societies, including the Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, American Society of Emergency Radiology, received the Radiological Society of North America’s Honored Educator Award for the last 5 years, and has been selected as the 2016-2017 Igor Laufer Visiting Professor of the Society of Abdominal Radiology. She is considered an expert in the field of abdominal imaging and oncology; invited many years as faculty to many national and international prestigious radiology conferences. She serves on the editorial boards of several journals in Radiology and is an Associate Editor of the Abdominal Radiology Journal and for RadioGraphics. Dr. Menias was recently named to the prestigious role of editor for RadioGraphics and as such will become the first female editor of the journal effective January 2021. Her selection as the 2020 Alumni Achievement Honoree for Washington University School of Medicine is Dr. Menias’ most recent honor.
Dr. Menias is a Diplomate in Radiology for the National Board of Medical Examiners and has been an examiner for the American Board of Radiology since 2003. She has recently been named the Chair for the Education Exhibits for RSNA. She has published 6 books, multiple book chapters and 267 peer-reviewed manuscripts. She prides herself with being an educator, and has received numerous teaching awards from the residents and fellows in her past years at Washington University including multiple “Teacher of the Year” honors, and was awarded “Educator of the Year” by the Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic, as well as “Teacher of the Year” in the three consecutive years she has been at Mayo Clinic. Cooky also received the honor of Mayo Clinic Arizona Distinguished Clinician of the Year 2018.
