PRESENTER BIO
Neurosurgeon Prince of Wales, Co-Founder and CMO Omniscient Neurotechnology (o8t), Visiting Scholar, University of New South Wales.
Dr. Sughrue grew up in a small town in Oklahoma, and after attending medical school at Columbia University in New York, where he graduated at the top of his class, he completed his neurosurgery training at the University of California at San Francisco, one of the world’s elite brain tumor centers. In 2011, he trained with Dr Charlie Teo at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney Australia. He then returned to the University of Oklahoma where he was the director of the brain tumor center. Over the 6 years he was there, he performed over 3000 brain tumor operations, making him one of the busiest brain tumor surgeons in American over that time frame.
In addition to building this program, and performing large numbers of high complexity surgeries, he relentlessly works on improving the way we take care of people with brain tumors and other neurologic diseases. His belief is that despite the amazing advances in computer science over the past few decades, that doctors still make decisions based on old methods, and that we can only progress by harnessing technology to provide better information to doctors. He works tirelessly to help make these technologies a reality in clinical practice.
To date, he has published over 250 peer reviewed scientific publications. Including an entire issue of Operative Neurosurgery, dedicated to a landmark effort where his group documented every major connection in the human brain in unprecedented detail. The 21st century is the century of the brain and he is leading the charge into the future. He is the founder and CMO of Omniscient Neurotechnology (o8t). o8t is focused on creating enterprise grade clinical and research solutions applicable to variety of brain related disorders, including depression, chronic pain, cancer, bi-polar disorder, Alzheimer’s, dementia, and PTSD, with the goal of bringing predictive analytics to the world faster. O8t is a data company with a goal to radically change the care of patients with brain disease by turning loose Machine learning/AI and big data to provide useful information to doctors. This involves both facilitating research and providing high quality data-based guidance to clinicians.
