PRESENTER BIO
Dr. McWilliams is a staff consultant and Professor of Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and Vice Chair of the Department of Oncology. He is Chair of the Practice Committee of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, and a member of the Cancer Center Executive Committee. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, he completed medical school at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, graduating summa cum laude. He completed his medical residency at Johns Hopkins, and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He also has completed a postdoctoral cancer genetic epidemiology fellowship at Mayo and obtained a master’s degree in clinical research from Mayo Clinic. He has actively studied and published extensively in the field of genetics of pancreatic cancer since 2003 and is a member of the Pancreas Task Force for the National Cancer Institute. He is also currently principal investigator of multiple clinical trials in gastrointestinal cancer and melanoma. Previous administrative roles include chair of practice committee of Division of Medical Oncology, Chair Mayo Clinic Biospecimens Committee, Chair GI Cancers Disease Oriented Group, Director, Oncology Service Line for Individualized Medicine, and Oncology subject matter expert for Epic implementation. Current National roles include Member Epic Steering Group for Adult Oncology, Member, EHR Steering Group for NCCN, member Pancreas Task Force, alternate member NCCN Best Practices Committee. His leadership interests include optimizing a team approach to clinical care and increasing efficiency of EMR workflow to provide the key information necessary for providers at the point of care.
