Bio:  Dr. Casey Clements is a Consultant Physician and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  Currently serving as Clinical Practice Chair, he focuses on large-scale interdepartmental and interdisciplinary practice improvements. Describing himself as a “recovering researcher,” he focuses on implementation projects of evidence-based medicine.  But, his first love will always be infection, carrying both a medical degree and a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology. Having been involved in the last five sepsis improvement efforts at Mayo, Dr. Clements is a leader in sepsis care within the Mayo Clinic enterprise and the Mayo Clinic Care Network.  Dr. Clements speaks nationally and internationally on the management of critically ill infected patients, advocating, and helping shape national policy on sepsis care.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the historical context of sepsis bundles and controversies
  • Review the intent behind sepsis quality metrics and real-world efforts that improve sepsis care
  • Describe the Mayo Clinic Model for Sepsis Care and its outcomes
