Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define acute, chronic, and unexplained dyspnea and the common conditions associated with these complaints.
  • Discuss a practical approach to the evaluation of dyspnea guided by patient demographics, initial clinical assessment, and stepwise diagnostic testing.
  • Apply these concepts to common case-based examples encountered in internal medicine practice.
  • Describe evolving, emerging diagnostic and management strategies for dyspnea evaluation and treatment.
