Target Audience

This course is designed for practicing gastroenterologists, fellows and residents in gastroenterology. Thoracic surgeons, otolaryngologists and pulmonologists, as well as other healthcare professionals with an interest in esophageal diseases may benefit from this program.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe long term management strategies for eosinophilic esophagitis, including approaches to remission and maintenance therapy.
  • Differentiate gastroesophageal reflux from other esophageal and functional disorders using an evidence based framework.
  • Summarize emerging therapies and current evidence relevant to the management of gastroesophageal reflux.
  • Appraise emerging technologies for Barrett’s esophagus screening and risk stratification.
  • Identify key technical principles involved in endoscopic eradication therapy for Barrett’s esophagus.
  • Interpret high resolution manometry and impedance planimetry findings to guide evaluation of esophageal motility disorders.
  • Evaluate indications, technical considerations, and outcomes associated with POEM for achalasia and obstructive motility disorders.
  • Review technical principles of endoscopic submucosal dissection and submucosal tunneling techniques in the management of esophageal neoplasia.
