Mayo Clinic's 8th Annual Neuro and Intensive Care: Review, Workshops and Controversies 2022 is a CME course designed for medical providers who care for patients with neurological/neurosurgical emergencies, acute stroke and brain hemorrhage, acute brain injury, coma and disorders that require hospital, emergency department, and intensive care unit evaluation and management. The course provides a mixture of didactic, case-based and evidence-based guideline review and workshops. Pharmacotherapy and ICU EEG workshops utilize audience participation in on-screen quizzes and share protocols regarding osmotherapy for raised intracranial pressure and antiepileptic drug therapy.


LIVE (in-person) attendees must comply with all live course requirements and guidelines and applicable state and local COVID-19 travel restrictions, guidance and resources.  

Please note that all live course attendees must: 

  • Complete COVID-19 testing of any kind and provide attestation that a negative test result was received within 72 hours or less of the event start date or provide attestation that you received any positive COVID-19 test result within the previous 90 days, that it has been at least 20 days since COVID-19 infection, and that you are currently asymptomatic.

Call for Abstracts
An electronic poster session for presentation of original research dedicated to the field of Neurocritical Care will be held at the meeting. Submitted abstracts may include: ongoing clinical trials in neuro critical care, outcome studies, quality improvement or practice innovations, and interesting, case series, case control studies, or challenging case reports. Posters will be peer-reviewed. The submission deadline for abstracts is Thursday, March 31, 2022. At least one of the authors must register and attend the conference.

Workshops

Critical Care Comprehensive Workshop
This hands on workshops includes central venous and arterial access and line placement, basic and advanced airway techniques (BVM, intubation, LMA, bronchoscopy, tracheostomy models), critical care ultrasound including focused aspiration of pleural and peritoneal fluid. This workshop is led by leaders in critical care at Mayo Clinic and is appropriate for both novice and experienced critical care learners. 

 

 

Target Audience

This course is designed for providers trained in neurology, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, critical care medicine, neurocritical care, pulmonary-critical care, and anesthesia.  ARNPs, PAs, paramedics/EMS personnel, pharmacists, and physical, occupational, and speech therapists who care for patients with neurological emergencies may also benefit.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define common neurological and neurosurgical emergencies such as stroke, seizures, respiratory failure, as well as provide updates in best practice for these topics
  • Review diagnosis of neurocritical care conditions and diseases, as well as pathophysiologic management of these conditions
  • Outline strategies for best practice and evidence-based medicine updates for medical providers caring for patients with neurological critical care and neurosurgical ICU disorders
