Target Audience

This course is designed for practicing anesthesiologists, CRNAs, anesthesiology assistants, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and all other perioperative healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Examine practice patterns that contribute to postoperative respiratory depression.
  • Identify clinical patterns that suggest a patient is at risk for perioperative respiratory depression.
  • Identify perioperative practice changes based on the updated AHA/ACC guidelines for perioperative care.
  • Identify novel medications and non-opioid strategies to mitigate chronic postoperative pain.
  • List changes to the 2024 AHA/ACC guidelines for perioperative care to minimize perioperative cardiac morbidity and mortality.
  • List strategies for achieving opioid sparing analgesia in the perioperative setting.
  • List strategies to mitigate postoperative respiratory depression.
