Clinical Research Education Series (2nd Quarter): Hepatology Clinical Research with Hugo Vargas, M.D.

Dr. Vargas is a Mayo Clinic Consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Mayo Clinic Transplantation Center.  He is a Professor of Medicine in the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, where he is the Director for Research and a Associate Director for Medical School Affairs for the MD/PhD program in the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Vargas has authored or coauthored more than 190 peer-reviewed articles. He is a Fellow of the AASLD, AGA, ACG, ASGE and ACP. He has been active in AASLD and has chaired the Annual Meeting Education Committee, Ethics Committee and co-chaired the AASLD/IDSA HCV group from 2016-18.

His current clinical and research interests include management of cirrhosis complications, acute on chronic liver disease and alcohol related liver disease. He has contributed extensively on chronic viral hepatitis and liver transplantation.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1.  Identify the themes of clinical research in Hepatology at Mayo clinic Arizona
2.  Discussion of concerns and observations by the teams about our clinical research
3.  Review of areas of clinical research that will be coming to our unit in the next few month
