This segment includes two Grand Rounds discussions on the non-clinical factors that impact the mortality rates among members of racial and ethnic minority communities, and the benefits of collecting and reporting COVID-19 data by gender and ethnicity. Both sessions address similar topics on longstanding health disparities highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic from the different perspectives of multidisciplinary panelists.

Target Audience

Healthcare workers of all specialties who are being impacted by COVID-19, including physicians, research scientists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and anyone with a particular interest in prevention, treatment, and patient care.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity you will be able to:

  • State the public and individual health benefits of collecting and reporting COVID-19 data by gender and race/ethnicity
  • Discuss non-clinical factors, including the effects of racism, that impact the observed disproportionate COVID19 infection and mortality rates among members of racial and ethnic minority communities
  • Assess the impact of healthcare organizations’ role in addressing health disparities in their communities
