Session 1: Exertional Leg Pain in the Athlete

Exertional leg pain in the athlete includes a broad differential that can be complex to diagnose and manage. In this CME webinar, Mayo Clinic providers will discuss the common causes of exertional leg pain. Jeff Nadwodny, D.O. will review the relevant anatomy, history and physical exam findings, diagnostic evaluation and management options. David Shirey, Jr. P.T., D.P.T., OCS will review the relevant rehabilitation strategies with the goal of returning an athlete to sport. 

Target Audience

This course is designed for the PT, PTA, Allied Health, Physician, Athletic Trainer, PA, Resident/Fellow, Nurse, Scientist Researcher, and Nurse Practitioner.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define exertional leg pain (ELP) and how it is sub-categorized
  • Differentiate the musculoskeletal, vascular, neurologic causes of ELP
  • Summarize the history and physical exam findings, diagnostic evaluations, management and rehabilitation process for the different causes of ELP
