Session 1: Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport

 January 18, 2022, 6:30-7:30 p.m. EST

Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) affects both female and male athletes and is underpinned by low energy availability, either from insufficient caloric intake and/or excessive energy expenditure. This low energy state leads to suboptimal function, with negative effects on health and performance. Laura Mattson, D.O., Sports Medicine Fellow, will review RED-S pathophysiology, screening, diagnosis, and treatment strategies, as well as return to play decision-making. Luke Corey, R.D.N., will then discuss detailed evaluation and treatment of nutritional deficits in athletes.
