Title: "Making Waves: Unraveling calcium dysregulation and autoimmunity in immune mediated rippling muscle disease"
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the clinical features of Rippling Muscle Disease (RMD) and distinguish between hereditary and immune-mediated forms, including the role of cavin-4 autoantibodies as a biomarker of immune-mediated RMD
- Explain how alterations in calcium-handling proteins may disrupt muscle relaxation dynamics and contribute to the pathophysiology of rippling in immune-mediated RMD.
- Define the transcriptomic findings from muscle biopsies of iRMD patients, including compensatory upregulation of cavin-4 expression and overlap in immune pathways with dermatomyositis, particularly IL-6 signaling
- Interpret current gaps in the understanding of skeletal muscle pathophysiology and potential avenues for future investigation in immune-mediated myopathies.
Presenter: Christina Alexandres, M.D.
Title: " Revisiting REM Sleep Behavior Disorder"
Learning objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Assess the history of REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD) and its association with alpha-synucleinopathy
- Identify limitations of prior research in clinical practice and need for research to understand the demographics of RBD
- Define the significance of the association between RBD and neurodegenerative disorders
- Assess goals of ongoing research projects on RBD and implications for future clinical practice
