Podiatry Coding and Documentation Seminar
This activity is being offered exclusively to Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Health System employees that provide various foot care services (palliative care, surgery, non-surgical foot clinic evaluation and treatment, diabetic foot care, would care, etc.) who are interested in learning about and improving on providing the most accurate and detailed documentation and coding of services rendered and can be considered an effort in quality improvement. A course brochure will be e-mailed to Mayo and MCHS employees involved in foot care services outlining the topics that will be covered.
Target Audience
This presentation is being offered to MDs, DPMs, PAs, APRNs, RNs, employees in finance and revenue, and coders. The specific specialties included are Podiatry, Musculoskeletal Clinic, Wound Care/Vascular, and Billing/Finance who provide the various aspects of foot care services for our Mayo and MCHS patients.
Learning Objectives
1. Explain the general rules and regulations of coding, billing and documentation in podiatry and foot and ankle surgery.
2. Describe the rules and regulations of coding, billing and documentation for Evaluation and Management Services (ie. E/M services) in podiatry.
3. Cite the appropriate coding and documentation for the commonly performed procedures in podiatry and in foot and ankle surgery.
4. Clarify what modifiers are and how they are to be used only in an appropriate fashion as well as the correct documentation that is needed to be present in the medical record to support their use.
5. Recognize the difference between non-covered Routine Foot Care and covered “At Risk” foot care and the documentation that is required to support coverage.
6. Explain the coverage criteria for symptomatic mycotic nail debridement and the documentation that is needed to support coverage. CPT code 11721 is the single, most audited CPT code in podiatry, if not in all of medicine.
