TEP Management for Voice Restoration (Optional - separate fee)
This workshop will share current trends and practices in post-laryngectomy rehabilitation and offer the attendees an opportunity to participate in voice prosthesis care and management. Following a didactic session of information sharing regarding voice, swallowing and pulmonary challenges in the TL population, a demonstration with patient volunteers will allow attendees to learn techniques of tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis placement and assist in prosthesis and HME selection. Participants will be able to examine and trouble-shoot the use of custom products and accessories for the total laryngectomee.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Myofascial Release in Head and Neck Cancer (Optional - separate fee)
This workshop will introduce 2 novel therapy approaches for the speech-language pathologist treating patients who are recovering from head and neck cancer. Theoretical framework for the treatment modalities of manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) with compression and myofascial release will be presented. Participants will learn the basics of these techniques and observe hands-on demonstration from the instructors. A discussion of medical conditions that are amenable to these advanced treatments will be included. This workshop is not intended to replace a certification course that is required before use of these methods.
Manual Therapy Techniques for Muscle Tension Dysphonia (Optional - separate fee)
This didactic lecture combined with hands-on workshop and discussion will introduce evidence based approaches in treatment of muscle tension dysphonia and muscle tension dysphagia. Some of the approaches covered are paralaryngeal assessment, manual laryngeal therapy and manual circumlaryngeal massage, and the conjunctive use of semi-occluded vocal tract exercises.
Office-Based Laryngology Procedures – Hands-On Lab (Optional – separate fee)
This hands-on workshop will cover all aspects of laryngology office-based procedures. The first part of the course consists of technique discussion by experts in the field. Following the discussion, participants have the opportunity to get 1:1 training on the various procedures; including transnasal esophagoscopy, transnasal biopsy, vocal fold injection, office Botulinum toxin injections, and office KTP laser ablation. Mannequins and lasers will be available.
