Speaker #1:  Sam Savitz, Ph.D.

Advancing Mental Health Care Through Health Services Research

Sam Savitz is an Assistant Professor of Health Services Research in the Division of Health Care Delivery Research within the Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery. He received his PhD in Heath Service Research at UNC Chapel Hill in 2018 and has training in causal inference methods for research. He has expertise using administrative claims data and electronic health records to evaluate interventional and noninterventional therapies to address chronic conditions including mental health and substance use disorder.

Learning Objectives:

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Apply the area-deprivation index and rurality to assess associations with mental health access and clinical outcomes
  2. Identify the key features of a learning health network and report how this approach is relevant for mental health
  3. Describe the OptumLabs Data Warehouse resource and how it can be used for mental health and substance use disorder research
