This is the seventh offering of this intensive that gives participants a kind and careful framework for considering the provision of healthcare for patients with chronic conditions. Both minimally disruptive medicine (MDM) and shared decision-making (SDM) are heavily discussed during the course giving participants conceptual and practical knowledge of the topics. The course is divided into brief lectures and interactive workshops. Lectures provide a conceptual overview of MDM and SDM including Mayo Clinic’s most recent research. Interactive workshops provide participants with tools that may be applied to individual practice and healthcare or research teams. Workshops provide space for conversations to discuss further developing MDM and SDM and implementing MDM and SDM tools and concepts into clinical practice. Mayo Clinic’s Hospital Medicine Boot Camp for NPPAs is a two-day course designed for the novice learner, ideally within the first year of their hospital-based NPPA position. This course is meant to be fun and full of practical information taught by faculty that use current guidelines and share tidbits of experience to help successfully care for acutely ill hospitalized patients. It is filled with a variety of commonly encountered hospital scenarios followed by interactive and informal discussion. Open dialog is encouraged. Participants should feel free to wear scrubs and comfortable shoes, bring a stethoscope, and reference/clinical materials used in daily practice. Despite being called boot camp there are no physical fitness elements to the course.

This six-day, in-person course contains morning sessions for lectures and afternoon sessions for practical lab training. The course materials include the Atlas of Clinical Fungi and Larone’s Medically Important Fungi. The content of the course is designed to equip attendees with the knowledge and practical laboratory skills to enhance and improve the diagnosis of fungal diseases. The topics include laboratory identification of mucormycetes, hyaline hyphomycetes, dematiaceous fungi, dermatophytes, dimorphic fungi, basidiomycetes, yeast and yeast-like fungi. In addition, fungal histopathology, MALDI-TOF MS, sequencing based identification and phylogenetic analysis, antifungal susceptibility testing, and PK/PD of antifungals are covered.
