During this session the learning objectives are:

  1. To describe the pharmacology and neuropharmacology of dexmedetomidine.

  2. To summarize the indications and available evidence for ketamine administration in the critical care setting.

  3. To examine a variety of emerging concepts regarding ketamine administration in combination with propofol for induction and maintenance of procedural sedation.

  4. To recognize the unique pharmacokinetic properties of remifentanil.

  5. To provide succinct, evidence-based, practical considerations for the administration of remifentanil.
