Topic: Focused Cardiac Ultrasound in ACLS (The FEEL Protocol)
Learning Objectives:
Review how limited transthoracic echocardiography can be added to the care of patients in cardiac arrest. Understand importance of synchronizing with pulse checks and limiting the no-flow intervals in CPR.
Describe differentiation of the cardiac standstill in true PEA and detecting cardiac motion in Pseudo-PEA with transthoracic imaging, and how to identify early return of spontaneous circulation.
Identify the treatable causes of PEA and Pseudo PEA: pericardial tamponade, tension pneumothorax, hypovolemia, pulmonary embolism (or other cause of acute RV dysfunction), LV dysfunction (global or regional) to help guide therapy in your patients.
Discuss the limitations/risks of use of focused echo in cardiac arrest.
