This conference will be the primary didactic source of epilepsy treatment required for training and certification. This conference encompasses expertise in epileptology, neuroradiology, neuropsychiatry, neuropsychology, and neurosurgery. The interdepartmental collaboration has allowed us to devise a new strategy for efficiently and effectively testing, planning, and implementing patient care thus preventing unnecessary referrals and providing patient follow through post treatment while gathering data for statistical analysis. This conference provides education to multiple departments and staff that otherwise would have to travel elsewhere for CME credit. Furthermore, we discuss the latest technology and compare literature reviews to our internal statistics and how we may implement new strategies to support our practice.
Epileptology treatment requires a comprehensive understanding and interpretation of stepwise testing and analysis in an efficient and beneficial manner for the patient. We are privileged to work at a multidisciplinary hospital which encompasses advanced technology and the latest research. Practice gaps unfortunately exist at facilities that are not able to provide the testing within their facility thus requiring referrals and outside scripts to complete a comprehensive analysis of their epilepsy costing the patient time and additional expenses. Because this practice gap exist many times we see patients referred after years of exhausting medicinal options with refractory seizures that could have been prevented with thorough testing and surgical intervention thus benefiting the patient sooner. Our physicians are afforded the opportunity for Referring Physician's Office visits in an effort to close this gap for patients and provide this comprehensive multidisciplinary epilepsy analysis to our community and referring physicians.
