Clinical Reviews seeks to update physicians on the latest recommendations involving the medical subspecialties important for the primary care physician.  The course provides a comprehensive program of lectures, panel and roundtable discussions on problems of general interest in various areas of medicine, surgery and pediatrics relevant to clinical practice.

Mayo Clinic staff are faculty for this comprehensive program of lectures, small group luncheon roundtables and in-depth evening discussions. Identical programs will be presented during both the October and November sessions.

Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses practicing in primary care, family medicine and internal medicine.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the appropriate immunizations which should be given to both children and adults for protection against preventable infectious diseases.
  • List medications which may be helpful in reducing peri-operative risk in patients to have a surgical procedure.
  • Describe the approach which should be used to improve the lipid profile in patients with hyperlipidemia using both lifestyle changes and pharmacologic agents.
  • Identify patients who are good candidates for new medical and surgical approaches to obesity.
  • Recognize the significance, prognosis and recommended follow-up of patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
  • Detect and treat common pediatric rashes appropriately.
  • Summarize the risks and benefits associated with proton pump inhibitor use and gain confidence in appropriate use.
