Clinical Reviews seeks to update primary care providers on the latest recommendations involving medical subspecialties. The course provides a comprehensive program of lectures, and panel and roundtable discussions on topics of general interest in medicine, surgery and pediatrics relevant to clinical practice.  This course offers ABIM MOC points and has a pre-course ABFM Knowledge Self-Assessment session taking place on the preceding Sunday, November 10, 2019.

Mayo Clinic staff lead this comprehensive program of lectures, small group luncheon roundtables and in-depth evening discussions. Identical programs will be presented during both the October and November sessions.

Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses practicing in primary care, family medicine and internal medicine.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify individuals who may benefit from interventions, including statin use, to decrease risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Identify patients who are good candidates for PrEP and gain confidence in prescribing PrEP for high risk individuals
  • Describe the appropriate immunizations administered to children and adults for protection against preventable, infectious diseases
  • Formulate an appropriate treatment plan for patients post myocardial infarction
  • Recognize the presence of unconscious bias and develop strategies to mitigate its negative effects
  • Describe how to manage a patient with a rising PSA

Travel

Rochester, Minnesota, is a friendly city that greets thousands of visitors from around the world each year. The city is serviced by a modern international airport with multiple flights daily via American. Access to and from the airport is provided by taxi, shuttle service, and rental car. The airport is located approximately 10 miles from the Mayo Clinic campus.

Note to Travelers: Several cities in the United States are named Rochester. When you make airline reservations and check your baggage, be sure that your destination is Rochester, Minnesota (RST) and that your baggage has been properly tagged.

Flying through the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is another option. There are two shuttle services that provide direct service to Mayo Clinic and the surrounding area. Travel time is approximately 75 minutes.

ABIM Maintenance of Certification
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 18.5 medical knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Participant information will be shared with ABIM through PARS.
