Care that Fits 2019 - General Session - 3 Days

Rochester, MN US
October 7, 2019 to October 9, 2019

Course Directors: Victor M. Montori, M.D., Kasey R. Boehmer, MPH, Ph.D.

Care that Fits is the fourth offering of this two-day intensive that gives participants a kind and careful frame for considering the provision of healthcare for patients with chronic conditions: Minimally Disruptive Medicine (MDM). Knowledge about the topic of Shared Decision Making (SDM) is an integral part of minimally disruptive care, and is also heavily discussed during the course. It is designed to provide participants both conceptual and practical knowledge of the topic and is divided into brief lectures and interactive workshop sessions. Lectures are intended to provide a conceptual overview of MDM and SDM and of our research work to-date. Interactive workshops focus on giving participants tools that they can use directly in their individual practice and as part of healthcare or research teams. Workshops provide space for conversations that consider practical steps to implement MDM/SDM tools and concepts into practice, and about ways to help develop MDM/SDM further.

Participants who register for either the 3-day Care that Fits General Session or the 2-day session, will have access to a complimentary 2-week online preparatory course prior to the onsite course. This preparatory course allows participants to interact with others coming to the course ahead of time to identify common interests, review and engage in discussion about key readings in Shared Decision Making and Minimally Disruptive Medicine, and prepare a five minute “pitch” presentation to give at the course to receive rapid feedback and identify potential collaborators. After registering, if participants are interested in participating in the online prep course, they can email Boehmer.kasey@mayo.edu

The course is intended for healthcare team members interested in applying the concepts of MDM in practice, for researchers interested in contributing to the ideas, tools, practice and implementation of MDM, and for patients with chronic conditions, particularly those leading organizations advocates, or involved in engagement activities.
