Hot Topics in Primary Care is an annual course planned by family practice providers that is designed to provide the primary care physician, physician assistant and nurse practitioner with practice updates on the management of various patient health concerns in primary care. The desired result of each presentation is to increase providers’ knowledge and/or competence. At the conclusion of each presentation, you will be asked to evaluate whether an increase in knowledge/skills has occurred and what you think you will be able to implement upon returning to your practice.

Target Audience

This course is designed for Primary Care (Family Medicine; Internal Medicine; Pediatrics) Physicians (M.D. or D.O.), P.A.s and N.P.s

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe when hormone therapy may be an appropriate option for the treatment of  menopausal symptoms.
  • Recognize when the risks of hormone therapy would likely outweigh benefits for the treatment of menopausal symptoms.
  • Identify when direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are the preferred therapy over vitamin K antagonists for the treatment of venous thromboembolism.

The Florian Gardens Conference Center is located at the intersection of I-94 and Highway 93 in Eau Claire, Wis.

From the east, west or the south:

  • Take I-94 to Highway 93 Eleva/Eau Claire, Exit #68.
  • Turn right at the second set of stoplights onto Lorch Avenue.
  • The Florian Gardens is the last building on the right.

From the north:

  • Take Highway 53 south into Eau Claire.
  • Merge onto Highway 93 south toward Eleva/Mall Drive.
  • After crossing over I-94, turn right at the second set of stoplights onto Lorch Avenue.
