Course Description
This course is designed to update physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health care providers practicing in gastroenterology and hepatology about new approaches to the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Faculty will present data on multiple topics, including general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal neoplasia, esophageal diseases, motility, nutrition, pancreaticobiliary disorders, endoscopy and hepatology.
Controversies in diagnosis and management will be analyzed in discussions and concurrent breakout sessions. Complex endoscopy cases and cutting-edge technology will be presented by expert endoscopists in a video forum.
To maximize time away from practice and enhance your learning experience, Mayo Clinic will host an American Board of Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification Learning Session – 2016 Update in Gastroenterology.

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Cite new modalities in the management of esophageal motility disorders (achalasia).
- Define the role of anorectal manometry in the work-up of patients with chronic constipation.
- Identify current strategies for the management of chronic viral hepatitis C.
- Select the proper therapeutic approach to patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
- Apply the proper therapeutic approach to patients with refractory gastroesophageal reflux.
- Describe new anticoagulation agents and their management among patients undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy.
- Discuss current endoscopic strategies for the management of the obese patient.
- State the proper diagnostic and therapeutic approach to patients with celiac disease.
- Identify current endoscopic strategies for the management of benign biliary strictures and leaks.
- Review the proper therapeutic approach in patients with cholestatic liver disease.
