The 17th Annual Mayo Clinic Update in Nephrology and Transplantation is a two-day Continuous Medical Education (CME) course designed to update participants on a range of nephrology topics relevant to current medical practice. Through a combination of lectures, literature review, and case-based presentation, this Medical Conference will deliver up-to-date and cutting edge information that can be directly integrated into clinical practice. Registration for the General Session is required in order to attend the Meet the Experts sessions.

Abstract Submissions
Abstract submissions are being accepted for the 17th Annual Mayo Clinic Update in Nephrology and Transplantation Course. Abstracts should be based on original research in the field of Nephrology and Kidney and/or Pancreas Transplantation. Case reports will also be considered. Abstracts should consist of introduction, methods, results, and conclusion.  Case Reports should consist of introduction, case report, and discussion. Abstracts should be less than 500 words in total. Accepted abstracts will be presented at dedicated poster sessions.

Abstracts must be submitted by Monday, December 31, 2018 to be considered. Abstract authors will be notified via email by Friday, January 10, 2019.

Target Audience

This Continuing Medical Education is designed for all members of the nephrology community and will be of interest to nephrologists, internists, primary care physicians, specialists, trainees, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who participate in the care of patients with kidney disorders and kidney and or pancreas transplants.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this CME Program, participants should be able to:

• Identify renal complications of novel cancer therapeutic agents. 
• Critique suggested wait times prior to receiving a kidney transplant for various cancers.
• Summarize recent developments and challenges in treating polycystic kidney disease.
• Compare various donor options for any particular renal failure patient.
• Quantify the surgical and none surgical risks of living kidney donation.
• Construct a management plan for an incidentally discovered renal cyst/mass.
• Critique various treatment strategies for hyperkalemia and hyponatremia.


At the completion of the CME, Bedside Ultrasonography Workshop, participants should be able to:

• Perform ultrasound of the kidneys, bladder, large vessels and lungs.
• Recognize common pathology detected by ultrasound examination
• Review and apply the principles of central line placement

At the completion of the CME Program, CRRT Workshop, participants should be able to: 

• Enumerate the various forms of CRRT
• Identify the indications of CRRT
