DESCRIPTION
The Hematopathology Case Sharing Conference is a conference where trainees, consultants, and allied health staff present a broad spectrum of hematopathology cases to disseminate experience, prompt discussion, discuss relevant literature/scholarly articles and incite project germination. Cases may include peripheral blood, bone marrow, lymph node/tissue, flow cytometry, molecular genetics, cytogenetics, coagulation, and mass spectrometry. Cases are presented via glass slides at a multi-headed microscope, whole slide imaging or static images with salient history, differential diagnostic considerations, and key teaching points. When appropriate, a brief scholarly review of supportive key articles is also presented to provide literature references for further self-study and continuing education.

In-Person and Live-Streamed; Bi-Monthly on the 2nd and 4th Monday from 11:00-12:00 p.m.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Physicians, Resident Fellows, Scientist Researcher, PhDs. M.D., Hematopathologists, Cytogeneticists, Molecular Pathologists, Pathology Residents/Fellows, Allied Health Professionals (physician extenders, genetic counselors, technologists).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize two new classification systems
  • Identify and interpret histopathologic, phenotypic, cytogenetic, laboratory and/or molecular features for subclassification of various neoplastic and non-neoplastic hematopoietic conditions.
  • Review recent advancements in immunohistochemical and molecular testing as it applies to various hematologic conditions.
  • Recognize new diagnostic entities and their potential manifestations in the tissues we diagnose (eg, germline predisposition syndromes, VEXAS).
  • Apply ancillary testing modalities in the treatment of neoplastic and non-neoplastic hematopoietic conditions.
  • Assemble specialized testing results into a final integrated report, as appropriate.
