DESCRIPTION
This activity occurs weekly on Tuesdays 6:30 - 7:30 am in Gonda 9-102.  (Jacksonville is typically held in room FL_JA_DV_300E10).

The HPB Education Conference is comprised of three parts:  didactic sessions (twice per month, one HPB specific and one multidisciplinary), a journal club (once monthly), and case presentations (once monthly).  The HPB didactic session consists of a lecture based on the textbook Surgery of the Liver, Biliary Tract, and Pancreas - L.H. Blumgart - Fifth Edition.  The topic for the Multidisciplinary didactic session will be determined by what specialty is scheduled to present.  The intent of the journal club portion is to review and discuss literature in the area of HPB and Transplantation.  The intent of the conference is to present cases for education but also each case such serve as a mechanism to stimulate research ideas. At the end of each case, the resident should be able to present current literature and a potential research idea.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This conference is attended and designed for surgical consultants, fellows, residents, medical students, and mid-level providers (NP/PA). The target audience are staff within hepatobiliary and transplant surgery.  Attendees have a range of prior knowledge and skill.  The conference is designed for understanding by a general medical audience. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the state of the art diagnostic and treatment strategies for hepatobiliary diseases.
