Learning Objectives:

  • Describe how the heritage of the Mayo Clinic has shaped its culture and mission in placing the patients' needs and welfare above all other interests.
  • Recognize the important role played by Edith Graham Mayo in the development of nursing education and how it became one of the three principle shields of Mayo.
  • Identify how Edith Graham Mayo instilled compassion into patient care resulting in its incorporation as one of the value statements of Mayo Clinic today.
