LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Show why proportionate mortality overestimates and case fatality underestimates suicide risk if not all individuals in the cohort under study have died
- Explain why cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases is more significant contributors to premature mortality in schizophrenia than suicide
- Describe how medical providers cannot discern from suicide from suicide assessments during appointments in the year before death if patients will eventually kill themselves
