This course is designed as a review of techniques and topics pertaining to Clinical Neurophysiology which includes: basic physiology; pathophysiology; EEG; evoked potentials; EMG; and intraoperative monitoring. There is a focus on clinical correlation of various neurophysiological tests used for the evaluation of patients with epilepsy, sleep disorders, peripheral nerve disorders and neuromuscular disorders. Presenters are Mayo Clinic staff and faculty of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine from the Departments of Neurology in Jacksonville, Florida, Rochester, Minnesota, and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Course Highlights

  • Learn to develop a logical approach to the use of standard clinical electrophysiologic techniques in the evaluation of common and uncommon neuromuscular disorders
  • Identify technical pitfalls associated with NCS and needle EMG and determine methods to correct and minimize technical problems
  • Lectures dedicated to approaches and interpretation of nerve conduction study and needle EMG findings in a variety of focal and generalized neuromuscular disorders
  • Extensive, interactive sessions and practice on recognition and interpretation of EMG waveform
  • 4 days of small group demonstrations and workshops on common and uncommon nerve conduction studies and needle examination
  • Opportunity for “hands on” nerve conduction study practice with faculty supervision
  • Exposure to Neuromuscular Ultrasound
  • Unusual or difficult EMG case discussions
  • Learn to identify technical pitfalls associated with EEG and the normal and variant patters of adult and pediatric patients
  • Learn to interpret the findings and clinical significance of abnormalities on EEG studies
  • Integrate the various clinical neurophysiology studies (evoked potentials, sleep studies) in the evaluation of patients with disorders of the central nervous system

This course is intended for neurologists, physiatrists and physicians specializing in and practicing clinical neurophysiology.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

A block of coastal view rooms single/double/triple/quad occupancy is reserved at a special course rate of $259 per night, plus tax, until January 21, 2019, or until the room block is filled. Call reservations at 904-277-1100and identify yourself as a participant of the Mayo Clinic EMG/EEG course.  Group rates will be extended to conference attendees three days prior to and three days after the conference based on availability. Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. and check-out time is 12:00 p.m. All parking at the resort is provided by valet service. Overnight parking at the resort is $12 per night. Day guest parking is complimentary. Guest room high-speed internet access is complimentary.

Travel

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is located 35 minutes from The Ritz-Carlton at Amelia Island. Lodging arrangements are the sole responsibility of the individual registrant. Mayo School of CPD is not responsible for expenses incurred by an individual who is not confirmed and for whom space is not available at the meeting. Costs incurred by the registrant such as airline or hotel fees or penalties are the responsibility of the registrant.
