Neurology in Clinical Practice is an annual Mayo Clinic Neurology course that brings together multidisciplinary faculty from Rochester, Minnesota, Jacksonville, Florida and Scottsdale, Arizona. The course, consisting of general session presentations and afternoon workshops, will serve as a primer of common neurological clinical problems and is intended to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based review of recent advances in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and management of neurological disorders.

Target Audience

This course is designed for any provider who sees patients with neurologic disease including: neurologists, psychiatrists, primary care physicians including internists and family care practitioners and allied health personnel including nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the latest guidelines for management of acute stroke.
  • Determine best evidence for diagnosis and therapy of the most common Neurological disorders.
  • Recognize quality and safety issues for various neurological conditions to facilitate practice based learning and systems based practice.
  • Compare benefits and risks of different therapies of treatment of seizures.
  • Identify different treatment options for patients with spine diseases.
  • Distinguish and treat different types of neurologic infectious diseases.
  • Construct an algorithm for evaluating patients with neuromuscular diseases.
  • Compare treatment options for Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, and restless leg syndrome.
  • Recognize the difference between primary and secondary headache syndromes.
  • Compare therapies for cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease.
