Thomas Brott, M.D., presents:
“Carotid Artery Disease: a diminishing burden because of recent advances in Prevention and Treatment ”
Thomas Brott has documented skills and experience in the design and successful completion of cerebrovascular clinical trials as evidenced by important roles in the NIH tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) Pilot Trials (holder of FDA IND, PI for leading center, and one of 3 national PIs), the NINDS tPA Stroke Trial (member of the Executive Committee and PI for the leading center), the Emergency Management of Stroke Trial (holder of the FDA IND, and national PI), the Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy versus Stenting Trial (national PI and holder of FDA IDE), CREST-2, (national PI of the Clinical Coordinating Center and holder of FDA IDE), and the NINDS StrokeNet (national co-PI for Prevention). I served as a member and then Chair of the Neurological Device Panel of the FDA and as a member of the Advisory Council of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS, and as Chair of the Council Clinical Trials Subcommittee). The experience gained in these roles establishes that I am well qualified to serve as part of the Mayo Clinic Florida Regional Stroke Center, which will be a key contributor to StrokeNET
