DESCRIPTION
Neurosurgery Morbidity and Mortality is a conference/course that consists of robust, multidisciplinary and in-depth reviews of select neurosurgical cases. All neurosurgical cases have the potential to be reviewed, in order to ensure we are optimizing patient safety and outcomes to the greatest extent possible. We have several objective patient safety indicators that automatically refer a surgical case to the conference, including unexpected postoperative neurologic deficit, respiratory failure, unplanned return to the operating room, surgical site infection, 30-day readmission, DVT/PE and patient death (even if unrelated to neurosurgical procedure). By including our colleagues from other specialties involved in our shared patients' care, we strive to ensure a well-rounded, multidisciplinary and detailed review of the entire patient experience. In addition to Consultants, Neurosurgery Morbidity and Mortality conference includes trainees, nurses, and advanced practice providers.
