This course will serve as a review and update on the most recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of common neurological clinical problems that face internists, family practitioners, neurologists, physicians and nurse practitioners in their daily practices. The course is intended to provide an intensive, practical review with an emphasis on evidence-based approaches to everyday problems that span the realm of neurology. A didactic format will include the use of an interactive keypad system, video case presentations, and question and answer panel discussions. Clinical case correlations will be discussed during the presentations.
Target Audience
This course is designed for any provider who sees patients with neurologic disease including: neurologists, psychiatrists, primary care physicians including internists and family care practitioners, and allied health personnel including nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Assess diagnosis and management of common neurological disorders
- Distinguish the potential etiologies of cerebrovascular diseases, headache, dementia, movement disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and neuromuscular diseases
- Develop an appropriate treatment plan for cerebrovascular diseases, headache, dementia, movement disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and neuromuscular diseases
- Compare benefits and risks of different therapies of treatment of seizures
- Recognize different treatment options for patients with spine diseases
- Formulate a plan for patients with nervous system malignancies and paraneoplastic disorders
