Care of the Transgender and Gender Diverse Patient Free Online CNE Nursing Course
The statistics surrounding abuse and mistreatment of transgender and gender diverse patients show a great need for education about caring for this patient population. This free online CNE course provides a general overview of caring for transgender and gender diverse patients including creating a safe and trusting healthcare environment. Included in this self-guided module are common terms and definitions, gender and sexual orientation, gender congruence, use of personal pronouns, case scenarios for the workplace and patient care, and patient stories sharing their journey.
Target Audience
This free online CNE course is designed for nurses and healthcare professionals providing care to transgender and gender diverse patient populations in all care settings.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Outline common terms associated with transgender and gender diverse patients and their meanings.
- Identify two ways nurses can create an inclusive healthcare environment for this patient population.
- List one online resource for transgender and gender diverse patients.
