Highlights

  • Introduction to the fundamentals of ultrasound including basic physics, orientation, and “knobology.”
  • Perform focused cardiac, inferior vena cava, lung, kidney/bladder, and lower extremity deep vein ultrasonography on live models.
  • Develop skills of image interpretation and clinical decision-making with case-based learning.
  • Hands-on and interactive learning experience with faculty experts.

Target Audience

This program is designed for inpatient care providers including physicians, advanced practice providers, residents and fellows. Internal medicine and family practice, among others, are specialties that have practitioners who care for hospitalized patients.

Learning Objectives

  • Perform focused cardiac ultrasonography to evaluate for left ventricular function, right ventricular function, and pericardial effusion.
  • Identify the inferior vena cava and estimate right atrial pressure.
  • Identify lung sliding, normal and abnormal lung artifacts, and pleural effusions.
  • Evaluate the lower extremity veins for deep vein thrombosis.
  • Identify the kidneys/bladder to evaluate for hydronephrosis and estimate bladder volume.
  • Clinically integrate ultrasound findings into cases of hypotension and dyspnea.

A block of rooms at a special group rate of $379 (USD), plus applicable local and state taxes, per night, is available for course participants and guests. A limited number of rooms are available three days prior to and three days after course dates.

For Mayo Clinic Hospital Medicine, the discounted resort fee is $25.00 (regularly $50) per room, per day, plus tax and includes the following services and amenities:
