Course Directors: Heather A. Billings, Ph.D., Mira T. Keddis, M.D., Devyani Lal, M.D., and Jon T. Nordrum, D.P.T., D.Sc.
This course aims to build meaningful connections and cultivate a sense of belonging for medical educators through lecture-based and small-group discussions. Successful ways of engaging with learners, teaching mentors to be coaches, and ways to mitigate burnout by rediscovering happiness, joy, gratitude, and value in teaching and medical education are covered in this work-life integrated activity.

Target Audience
This course is designed for healthcare professionals who have faculty and teaching responsibilities in allied health, undergraduate, graduate, or post-doctoral educational programs. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists may benefit from this program.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify practical takeaways for building a fulfilling career in academia
- Apply evaluation strategies to provide constructive feedback to support learner growth
- Design teaching strategies for the use of generative AI
- Develop methods to build accountability in learners while promoting a culture of responsibility and self-directed learning
- Recognize strategies to manage a diverse community of learners, ensuring that learners of all levels, professions and specialty areas are supported
- Describe medicolegal challenges in the academic environment
- Apply strategies to support the success of the struggling learner
