The employment of advanced practice registered nurses (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) is expected to increase within surgical practices to meet growing workforce demands. To improve outcomes, surgical professionals must stay informed about the latest advances in treatment and management while understanding and implementing best practice models to optimize team-based care. This course is specifically tailored to meet the educational needs of surgery healthcare professionals in both private practice and academic settings.

Target Audience
This course is designed for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Apply current, evidence-based guidelines to the perioperative assessment and management of surgical patients across multiple specialties to improve clinical decision – making.
- Evaluate emerging surgical technologies, including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted approaches, by comparing indications, outcomes, risks, and benefits to inform patient care.
- Analyze common intraoperative and postoperative complications and formulate evidence-based management strategies to enhance patient safety and outcomes.
- Integrate interdisciplinary, team-based approaches into perioperative care by effectively collaborating with surgical, anesthesia, and nursing colleagues.
- Incorporate quality improvement principles and current evidence into clinical practice to enhance patient outcomes, reduce variability in care, and support practice at the top of licensure.
- Summarize best practices for pre-operative optimization of the acute surgical patient.
