Post-course Bonus Session: The Gut–Brain–Eating Connection: A Collaborative Care Symposium - Live (in-person)
This multidisciplinary symposium will review the bidirectional relationship between gastrointestinal symptoms, disorders of gut–brain interaction, altered eating behaviors, and eating disorders in adolescent and adult patients. The program emphasizes evidence-based assessment, appropriate referral, and coordinated care among adult GI motility, procedural GI, nutritional GI, eating disorder, nutrition, GI psychology, and complex care nursing professionals.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize and differentiate disorders of gut–brain interaction and disordered eating patterns in adolescents and adults presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms.
- Assess medical and nutritional risk and determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, including indications for endoscopic evaluation, nutrition support, and escalation of care, while avoiding unnecessary testing or reinforcement of maladaptive eating behaviors.
- Apply evidence-based nutritional and behavioral strategies to support symptom management, dietary flexibility, nutritional rehabilitation, and reduction of food-related fear in patients with GI symptoms and disordered eating.
- Develop and implement coordinated multidisciplinary care pathways that integrate gastroenterology, primary care, nutrition, GI psychology, eating-disorder treatment, nursing, and family support, including appropriate referral, communication, follow-up, and transition planning.
