ForwardSleep and Stroke 2017
Sleep and Stroke 2017 will bring national and international experts in the field together to explore state-of-the-art patient care management in the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular disease and sleep disorders. The latest clinical research and expert opinion will converge to improve clinical practice through a mix of session types: research presentations, poster sessions and roundtable discussions. Discussions will focus on providing research updates and evidence-based clinical strategies which sleep clinicians and neurologists can use in their daily practice.

Target Audience
Providers involved in the management of patients with cerebrovascular disease and sleep disorders. This includes sleep specialists, neurologists, psychiatrists, pulmonologists, family medicine and internal medicine providers.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe the current state of knowledge in the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of sleep disorders in the stroke patient.
- Explain the bidirectional relationships between stroke and sleep apnea with a focus on the associations between sleep apnea and atrial arrhythmias.
- Develop acute and long-term treatment strategies for OSA in post-stroke patients.
- Define the challenges in using PAP therapy specific to stroke patients and alternative methods of treating sleep disordered breathing.
- Critically evaluate current knowledge gaps and propose a rational research strategy to address these deficits.
