Convergence calls for groups within the biomedical, life sciences, physical science, engineering and other fields to come together to solve unmet health needs. This conference aims to bring together various scientists with the aim of discovery of education gaps inherent to one’s own discipline as well as the potential for creative collaboration in shared problem solving.
Registration Fees (3 days)
M.D., DO | $750 |
Ph.D. | $500 |
Resident, Fellow, NP, PA, Allied Health Professional, Retiree | $500 |
ABPN MOC | $50 |
Abstracts: Deadline October 11, 2019
As part of Mayo Clinic Neuroscience Convergence course, the course co-directors will review submitted abstracts centered on neuroscience, translational science, and specialized laboratories. Accepted presentations will be presented verbally as on screen PowerPoint electronic presentations. The submission deadline for abstracts is Friday, October 11, 2019. At least one of the authors must register and attend the conference.

Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) 2019
November 6, 2019
Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
This course will provide attendees with an overview of 14 neurological emergencies, including acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, meningitis/encephalitis, coma after cardiac arrest and spinal cord injury. The course is designed for a broad group of providers, including emergency medical service paramedics, nurses, residents, fellows, primary care physicians, and physicians specializing in emergency medicine, intensive care, infectious diseases, neurology, and neurosurgery. Attendees are encouraged to bring laptops or tablets to take emergency neurological life support (ENLS) online quizzes. Attendees who pass the quizzes will receive an ENLS certificate from the Neurocritical Care Society.
Target Audience
Neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroscientists (PhD), chemists and physicists (physical science), engineers (mechanical, electrical, software, and health care). Also newer scientific fields are emerging that are key to convergence in health care including health information technology (IT), informatics, artificial intelligence and machine learning experts.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Discuss complex neuroscientific conditions requiring a convergence science approach
- Identify emerging neuroscience innovations in clinical, basic science and engineering
- Recognize and implement the concept of convergence as outlined by National Academies of Medicine, Science and Engineering, National Institutes of Health, and how this helps translational science
- Identify opportunities for scientific collaboration, discovery, and problem solving
- Create a growing network of convergence neuroscience teams among basic scientists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, engineers and computing science (artificial intelligence and machine learning)
