Radiation Oncology Education for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant 2019

The objective of the course is to increase our knowledge and to bring together our practice initiatives within the Mayo Clinic Rochester sites of Radiation Oncology. The event will discuss risks and benefits of bringing immunotherapy into the practice of radiation oncology. It will also teach techniques to reading imaging including different types of radiology scans. Pediatric considerations for our patient populations will be discussed including treatment types and side effects to expect. Head and Neck cancers will be discussed as to how to assist in caring for these patients, undergoing treatments, as well as after treatment has been completed including dental exam information. Learning dosimetry’s role will assist us in what side effects to expect on an individual basis, enhancing our personalized medicine practices, and sharing this information with our patients.
Target Audience
This activity is for Mayo Staff and by invite only and is primarily for NP and PA employed by Mayo Clinic. Please connect with the course directors listed if you are interested in attending.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe appropriate standards of care for patients receiving radiation treatment.
- Explain what medications to use with patients undergoing radiation treatment.
- Recognize the importance of follow up care after treatment has been completed.
- Increase ability to interpret various radiographic images.
