Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify current evidence based practice recommendations in specialties such as cardiology, infectious disease, nephrology, gastroenterology, and hospital medicine.
  • Describe when and how to initiate appropriate and timely consultation with specialty services.
  • Describe new recommendations for managing patients with valvular disease.
  • Describe and discuss practice updates for patients with sepsis to decrease in-hospital mortality, length of stay, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Describe and discuss how to effectively assess and treat psychiatric/mental health disorders including updated practice guidelines on psychiatric/mental health disorders from the American Psychiatric Association.
  • Describe and discuss updated guidelines and recommendations to reduce the occurrence of geriatric syndromes in hospitalized patients in an aging population.

The Hilton Rochester Mayo Clinic Area is a new hotel opening in 2019. Reservations will be accepted sometime after the New Year by calling the Hilton Rochester directly at 507-258-5757 and identifying yourself as attending the Mayo Clinic NPPA course.

Travel

Rochester, Minnesota, is a friendly city that greets thousands of visitors from around the world each year.  The city is serviced by a modern international airport with multiple flights daily via American.  Access to and from the airport is provided by taxi, shuttle service, and rental car.  The airport is located approximately 10 miles from the Mayo Clinic campus. 

Note to Travelers: Several cities in the United States are named Rochester.  When you make airline reservations and check your baggage, be sure that your destination is Rochester, Minnesota (RST) and that your baggage has been properly tagged.

Flying through the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is another option.  (www.mspairport.com)  There are two shuttle services that provide direct service to Mayo Clinic and the surrounding area.  Travel time is approximately 75 minutes.
