Ultrasound-Guided Procedures Workshop, October 19, 2017

The use of ultrasound to verify and access a target is considered a standard of care for most common bedside procedures. This has been shown to increase success, safety, and significantly decrease complications. This workshop has been designed to introduce clinicians to the concept of ultrasound guided procedures which include: central line placement, thoracentesis, paracentesis, arthrocentesis, and lumbar puncture. With assistance by bedside instructors, participants will then have an opportunity to scan live models and practice procedures on mannequins.
The registration fee includes tuition, pre-course syllabus, lunch and break refreshments.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Visualize the internal jugular vein and differentiate from the carotid artery.
- Recognize a fluid collection in the thoracic cavity.
- Recognize a fluid collection in the abdominal cavity.
- Recognize a fluid collection in a joint and subcutaneous space.
- Introduce a needle under direct ultrasound guidance into the desired target.
- Visualize and recognize perispinal/spinal structures and mark appropriate target for lumbar puncture.
